A recent news report claims that Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros’ organizations received $260 million from the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to influence political affairs and create instability in multiple countries, including India and Bangladesh.
A post on X (formerly Twitter) by an account linked to former US President Donald Trump alleged, “George Soros received $260,000,000.00 from USAID and used this money to incite chaos, manipulate governments, and serve personal interests in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, India, the UK, and the US.” The claim has intensified scrutiny of US foreign aid, especially after the Trump administration imposed restrictions on USAID funding.
Financial Links to Soros-Affiliated Groups
Reports suggest that over the past 15 years, USAID has provided more than $270 million to organizations tied to Soros. One such group, the East-West Management Institute, has collaborated with Soros’ Open Society Foundations and received USAID funding. These revelations have sparked concerns regarding the US government’s involvement in international political movements.
Elon Musk’s Criticism of USAID Funding
Elon Musk, the head of DOGE, has echoed Trump’s concerns, criticizing USAID’s support for what he calls “woke and controversial” initiatives. His involvement has further fueled Republican opposition to foreign aid being used to influence political outcomes and instigate regime changes.
BJP’s Stance on Soros’ Influence in India
In India, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has consistently accused Soros of funding opposition groups and supporting critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. According to BJP leaders, Soros’ initiatives are aimed at destabilizing the Indian government and interfering in domestic politics. These allegations have further fueled debates on the role of foreign funding in shaping national policies.
