Online trading scam; Malayali who swindled ₹75 lakh and fled to Abu Dhabi caught.

Online Trading Scam: Kozhikode Native Arrested for Swindling ₹75 Lakh
In connection with an online trading scam involving ₹75 lakh, a Kozhikode native has been arrested. Sultan Bathery police took 25-year-old C.K. Nijas, a resident of Perumanna, Thennarapotta House, into custody at Bengaluru Airport on Saturday.

Following the fraud, he fled to the Gulf, prompting the police to issue a lookout circular against him. He was apprehended while attempting to return to India from Abu Dhabi via Bengaluru Airport. Another suspect in the case is yet to be arrested.

Between April and December 2022, Nijas allegedly swindled money from a young man from Cheeral, Wayanad, and his friends. He promised profits ranging from 5% to 10% through online trading and collected around ₹75 lakh via Google Pay, bank transfers, and cash transactions.

However, after failing to return either the profits or the invested money, the victim from Cheeral filed a police complaint in November 2024. Upon learning about the registered case, both accused fled. Nijas was arrested by a police team led by Sub-Inspector P.N. Muraleedharan. He was later presented in court and remanded.
