Do we need to spend 21 million dollars?; They tried to choose someone else, we will bring this matter to the government's attention; Trump

US President Donald Trump dismissed speculations regarding the cancellation of the $21 million aid that America had previously provided for programs aimed at promoting voter participation in India.

"Do we need to spend $21 million to ensure voter participation in India's elections? I feel that they (the Biden administration) were trying to choose someone else. This matter should be brought to the attention of the Indian government," Trump remarked.

The cancellation was based on recommendations from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk. The grant was originally introduced during the administration of former US President Joe Biden.

On Tuesday, Trump further questioned the necessity of such funding, considering India's economic status and trade policies. "Why should we give India $21 million? They have enough money. India is one of the most heavily taxed nations in the world. I respect India and its Prime Minister," he added.

Meanwhile, the BJP alleged that the US financial aid was evidence of foreign interference in India's electoral process. The party claimed that during the Congress-led UPA government's tenure, certain forces that acted against India's interests were given every opportunity to weaken the country.
