Keralite sets Indian Indoor Shot Put Record in the US

Krishna Jayasankar Menon, younger daughter of former Indian basketball team captains Jai Shankar Menon and Prasannakumari, is making waves in the throwing arena in the US.
Krishna ,a fourth year Business Administration under graduate student with the Nevada University,Las Vegas has won the bronze in the Mountain West Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Albuquerque on March First. The 22 year old tossed the iron ball to a distance of 16.03 metres,shattering the existing national indoor women's record of 15.54 metres held by Maharashtra's Poornarao Rane, another US residing student athlete.

Krishna's historical effort came in the last round, pushing Colorado State's Makayla Long to the fourth spot (15.98m).Makayla was in the third position till then. Two other Colorado throwers won the gold and silver with Mya Lensar (19.02) and Gabby Morns (17.09) finishing first and second respectively.
With the podium finish, Krishna got selected for the NCAA indoor Championships to be held on March 14 and 15 in Virginia Beach. The NCAA is the US inter-university meet.

Krishna started as a tennis player in her early school days,switched to track and field very soon.Her elder sister Archana was a triple jumper in her school,college days.Krishna attended a training camp in Guntur,Andhra conducted by SAI and Anil Kumble's Ten Vic Academy,where she was trained by Jaimican coach Maichael Vassell.Straight away she joined El Paso University,Texas and later moved on to Las Vegas.Now under US coach Jordan Roach she dreams high.Krishna trains in discus throw as well.She targets the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games 2026.
Her batch mate in Guntur,25 year old Jyothi Yerraji had already won Asian and Asian Games medals.And,Krishna moves in the same path.Krishna is confident,committed and of course, sports is in her blood.Let's wish her the very best.
