The global order is a Western myth; the world is at the threshold of change; India will not be a praise-singer, says Union Minister S. Jaishankar.

The global order is a Western myth and is now outdated, said External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. He emphasized that global rules must evolve to reflect present realities. Although the world stands at a turning point, India will not become a praise-singer when challenges arise, he added.

"There was once a great global order, and everyone followed it. However, that was their (Western) myth. Look at it from the perspective of other countries. Where was the global order when people in Africa, Asia, and Latin America couldn’t access vaccines? Where was it when travel restrictions were imposed?" Jaishankar questioned.

He further stated that while the world has faced "very significant problems" before, many countries lacked the courage to speak up. "India was one of the few countries that spoke about what connectivity means. A single country cannot decide what should be connected, but look at other parts of the world—how many of them raised their voices?" Jaishankar remarked.

He said the world is at the threshold of change. "Whether change is good or bad in terms of opportunities and challenges—time will tell. But you will not see me wandering around singing praises for a world that is somehow lost," he concluded.
