Prime Minister Expresses Concern Over Earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand, Assures India's Support

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed concern over the earthquakes that struck Myanmar and Thailand this morning. He assured that India is ready to provide all possible assistance.

"There is deep concern over the situation following the earthquakes in Myanmar and Thailand. Praying for the safety and well-being of everyone. India is ready to extend all possible help. The Ministry of External Affairs has been directed to stay in touch with the governments of Myanmar and Thailand," he posted on social media platform X.

Myanmar is in shock after experiencing two consecutive earthquakes. The tremors, measuring 7.7 and 6.8 in magnitude, struck central Myanmar at 12:50 PM (local time) on Friday. Reports indicate that the epicenter was 16 kilometers northwest of the city of Sagaing, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

In Mandalay, Myanmar’s second-largest city, a church collapsed, leaving several people missing. Rescue operations are ongoing, and local authorities have warned that the death toll may rise. Emergency has been declared in six locations across Myanmar. In response to the disaster, Myanmar’s ruling military government has requested international humanitarian aid.

The effects of the Myanmar earthquake were also felt in Thailand’s capital, Bangkok. Videos circulating on social media show a building under construction collapsing in the city's Chatuchak Market area.
