John Brittas MP Slams BJP During Rajya Sabha Debate on Waqf Bill

MP John Brittas launched a scathing attack on the BJP during the Rajya Sabha debate on the Waqf Bill. He accused the BJP of shedding crocodile tears in the name of Christians while attacks against the community continued daily. He pointed out that even today, Christians were being attacked in Jabalpur, and last year alone, there were 700 such incidents. He also highlighted that over 200 churches were burned in Manipur.

"For the past few days, you have been speaking about Christians, Kerala, and Munambam. But can we forget Stan Swamy? A man suffering from Parkinson’s disease, who couldn’t even drink water without help, was left to die in jail. Can we forget Graham Staines, who was burned alive along with his children?" Brittas asked.

He further drew a biblical analogy: "There was a character in the Bible—Judas, who betrayed Jesus Christ for thirty silver coins. Some people here resemble such characters. You can even find ‘Munnan’ from the movie Empuraan among these BJP benches. The people of Kerala will recognize him. That is the history of Kerala. We have removed the poison you represent before, and we will do so again. Just as we shut down Neyyattinkara's account, soon we will close this account as well. The people of Kerala made one mistake, but we will correct it soon."

Brittas assured that no one in Munambam would lose their home. "This is the commitment of the Left government. If we have the strength and sincerity to provide homes for five lakh homeless people, we also have the responsibility to protect the people of Munambam. We will do it. We don’t need your interference. Just as mosques are covered up in Uttar Pradesh, no place of worship will have to be hidden in Kerala. No one will have to live in fear here. Kerala has an atmosphere of brotherhood where everyone can live together peacefully, and we will maintain it."

He also criticized the BJP's hypocrisy, stating, "Now you are shedding tears for Christians, but Malayalis can see through it. You keep mentioning Munambam in this bill, but didn’t you displace thousands of people in North India? Over 50,000 people are refugees in Manipur alone. Many have fled the country. You have nothing to say about them. You have destroyed numerous churches."

"You are the Munnan from Empuraan. Malayalis have the strength to recognize such people. If you truly believe in the Constitution, withdraw this bill. If you care about communal harmony and equality, withdraw this bill," he concluded.
