In the National Herald case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has filed a chargesheet against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. Charges have also been filed against Sam Pitroda and Suman Dubey. The chargesheet by the ED has been submitted in connection with a money laundering case related to the National Herald newspaper, targeting Congress leaders.
The prosecution complaint was filed in the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi. The court has scheduled a hearing for April 25 to consider the chargesheet. The ED’s investigation in the National Herald case began based on a complaint filed in 2014 by Dr. Subramanian Swamy.
According to Swamy's complaint, assets of Associated Journals Limited (AJL), valued at over ₹2,000 crore, were allegedly acquired for just ₹50 lakh by Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other senior Congress leaders. AJL, which publishes the National Herald, is owned by Young Indian Private Limited. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi each hold 38% of the shares in Young Indian, meaning the majority of the company’s shares are in their names, as per the ED’s findings. It is alleged that in exchange for a loan reportedly provided by the Congress party, AJL and its assets were taken over by Sonia and Rahul for just ₹50 lakh.
