In Andhra Pradesh, a young woman who had married a Hindu youth was found dead under mysterious circumstances. The deceased, 23-year-old newlywed Yasmin Banu, was discovered lifeless. Her husband alleged it to be an honor killing.
Three months ago, despite strong opposition from her family, Sai Teja and Yasmin had married. Yasmin’s family was against their relationship. Following the marriage, the couple sought police protection. The police also provided counseling to Yasmin’s parents. After confirming that both individuals were of legal age, the police allowed Yasmin to go with Sai Teja.
However, Sai Teja claimed that Yasmin was later called back to her home under the pretense that her father was unwell, and after that, he could no longer reach her by phone.
Sai Teja also stated that after their marriage, Yasmin’s elder sister and brother frequently contacted her. Just before her death, Yasmin’s family had also reached out to her, saying her father was seriously ill and asked her to come home immediately. About half an hour after she went home, when Sai Teja tried to call her, a relative answered the phone and informed him that Yasmin was in the hospital.
Sai Teja alleged that this was an honor killing and that Yasmin’s family was now trying to portray it as a suicide.
