Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj and starring Mohanlal, has achieved a historic milestone. Within just 30 days of its release, the film has reportedly grossed ₹325 crore, according to its makers. This makes Empuraan the first Malayalam film to enter the ₹300 crore club. Mohanlal himself shared this joyful news through social media.
The film has now surpassed the previous record held by Manjummel Boys, which had earned ₹242.25 crore. This achievement is particularly notable as it comes amidst criticism from the RSS and the central government.
Director Prithviraj also took to social media to celebrate the success, calling it a historic cinematic moment. He said that it was a dream realized together with the audience and noted that Malayalam cinema is now moving forward with greater brilliance and unity.
The film was released globally on March 27 and had a pan-India release in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada. The screenplay was written by Murali Gopy. Empuraan is the sequel to Lucifer (2019) and was jointly produced by Subaskaran, Antony Perumbavoor, and Gokulam Gopalan under the banners of Lyca Productions, Aashirvad Cinemas, and Sree Gokulam Movies.
The film features a star-studded cast including Prithviraj, Manju Warrier, Tovino Thomas, Indrajith Sukumaran, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jerome Flynn, Baiju, Sai Kumar, Andrea Tivadar, Abhimanyu Singh, Saniya Iyappan, and Fazil.
