In a shocking case from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, a woman and her lover were arrested for the murder of her husband, Kehar Singh. The accused, Kehar's wife Rekha and her partner Pintu, first poisoned Kehar and then strangled him to death. To stage the murder as a suicide, they hung the body.
The truth came to light following a complaint by Kehar’s elder brother. While the post-mortem revealed that the cause of death was asphyxiation, a chemical analysis of internal organs confirmed the presence of poison. During police interrogation, Rekha confessed to the crime.
Kehar and Rekha had been married for 16 years and had four children. Rekha, who worked as a cook at a medical college, was in a relationship with a man named Pintu. After Kehar discovered their affair, frequent arguments broke out between the couple. Fearing their relationship would be exposed or disrupted, Rekha and Pintu plotted to kill Kehar.
After committing the crime, Pintu fled to avoid arrest, while Rekha locked the door from inside and pretended to be in distress, screaming for help. Neighbors, assuming Kehar had committed suicide, informed the police.
