San Diego, California: A private jet crashed into a residential area in San Diego, California, early Thursday morning, authorities reported. All six people on board are feared dead, and eight individuals on the ground sustained injuries. Among the deceased is renowned music talent agent Dave Shapiro.
Shapiro was also the founder of the David S. Zocchi Brain Tumor Center at Monmouth Medical Center. The aircraft involved in the crash was a Cessna 550 Citation II jet that had departed from Wichita, Kansas. The crash occurred around 3:45 a.m. local time in the Murphy Canyon area, a neighborhood that includes military housing.
The plane reportedly struck a power line before crashing into a home. Jet fuel ignited fires on both sides of the street, damaging several vehicles and homes. One house was completely destroyed, and around ten others sustained damage. About 100 people were evacuated from the area. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have launched investigations into the incident.
