Gujarat Bridge Collapse: Lives Lost, Travel Hardship; 50 km Extra Distance to Cover

Following the collapse of the crucial Gambhira bridge that connected Gujarat’s Anand and Vadodara districts, commuters in the region are now forced to travel several extra kilometers. The bridge crumbled into the Mahisagar river on Wednesday morning during peak traffic hours, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and the fall of four vehicles into the river.

Major Route Blocked, Travel Hardships Intensify

The bridge near Padra was the easiest and most direct route for travel to and from Saurashtra. Built in 1986, the 40-year-old structure played a vital role in linking South Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and Saurashtra.

With the bridge now collapsed, daily commuters who relied on this route face serious disruption. Traffic has been rerouted through Vasad, adding roughly 50 kilometers to the usual journey — significantly increasing travel time and fuel costs. Additionally, traffic has been temporarily diverted via Sindhrot, which adds another 16 kilometers to the route.
