Tesla to India: First showroom to open in Mumbai on July 15.

Electric vehicle maker Tesla is preparing to enter the Indian market, announcing on Friday that it will open its first showroom—referred to as an "Experience Center"—in Mumbai on July 15.
As part of its entry into India, Tesla has been ramping up hiring and scouting showroom locations in Mumbai and Delhi. In the initial phase, the Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive SUV will be made available to Indian consumers. Five Model Y units, imported from Tesla’s Shanghai plant, have already arrived in Mumbai.
Currently, Tesla is focusing on selling imported vehicles in India and has no immediate plans to begin local production, Union Minister for Heavy Industries H.D. Kumaraswamy clarified last month. Despite high import duties, Tesla’s move is expected to make a significant impact on the Indian automotive market.
