The state government has launched a long-awaited health insurance scheme for expatriate Malayalis. Implemented jointly by the state government and Norka Roots under the name “Norka Care”, the scheme will provide medical assistance of up to ₹5 lakh for expatriates.
Members of the scheme can avail treatment at 12,000 hospitals across India. The annual premium for an individual is ₹7,500. For a family comprising husband, wife, and up to two children under 25 years, the premium is ₹13,275 per year. If there are more than two children, an additional ₹4,130 must be paid for each extra child.
Those working abroad as well as students who have gone overseas for studies are eligible to join. Expatriate Malayalis living in other Indian states outside Kerala can also enroll. The benefit is available to holders of a Norka Pravasi ID card or Student ID card. The scheme offers coverage up to the age of 70, and treatment is also available for pre-existing illnesses.
