People of Indian origin as CEOs of American companies; Srinivas Gopalan and Rahul Goyal take on new leadership roles

Two Indian-origin executives, Srinivas Gopalan and Rahul Goyal, have risen to leadership positions in two major American companies. Srinivas Gopalan has been appointed as the CEO of telecom giant T-Mobile, while Rahul Goyal has been named the CEO of beverage company Molson Coors. Notably, these appointments come right after the U.S. government sharply increased H-1B visa fees.
Srinivas Gopalan, who has decades of experience in the telecom sector, is currently the Chief Operating Officer of T-Mobile and will take charge as CEO on November 1. An alumnus of St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, and an MBA graduate from IIM Ahmedabad, Gopalan has held senior positions at major firms like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone.
Rahul Goyal, who has been appointed as the new CEO of Molson Coors, will assume office on October 1. Associated with the company since 2001, he currently serves as its Chief Strategy Officer. A Mechanical Engineering graduate from Mysore University, Goyal has led the company’s operations both in the UK and India.
With their appointments, Srinivas Gopalan and Rahul Goyal join the growing list of Indian-origin leaders heading global corporations—among them Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella.
