India Press Club of North America Honors George Thumpayil with “Pioneer in Journalism” Award

Veteran journalist and media professional George Thumpayil has been honored with the “Pioneer in Journalism” Award by the India Press Club of North America (IPCNA) for his outstanding contributions to print, broadcast, and online journalism. The award was presented during the IPCNA Media Conference held at the Sheraton Edison Hotel.

Dignitaries including N. K. Premachandran MP, V. K. Sreekandan MP (Palakkad) and Pramod Narayan MLA (Ranni) graced the occasion, along with several leading media professionals from India and North America.

Eminent journalists Johny Lukose, Hashmi Taj Ibrahim, Abgeoth Varghese, Sujaya Parvathy, Mothy Rajesh, and Leen B. Jesmas joined the event and praised IPCNA for providing a global forum that celebrates journalistic excellence, cultural identity, and unity among Malayali media professionals.
 

With a career spanning decades, George Thumpayil has made remarkable contributions across multiple branches of media. He has served as National Correspondent for Malayala Pathram, Online Correspondent for Malayala Manorama, and held key positions in various media and public relations organizations. He is also recognized for his role as a program producer and anchor of popular shows such as “Kaazhcha Ee Aazhcha” on the MCN channel.

Apart from his journalistic endeavors, Thumpayil has been active in cultural and community initiatives across the United States, Canada, and Malaysia. He is an accomplished writer, having authored several books including “Samayaratham Urulunna Punyabhoomi”, “Loud Speaker”, “Prakrithiyude Nizhalukal Thedi”, and “Deshantharangal.”
 

Thumpayil resides in the United States with his wife Indira, a retired nurse practitioner. His son Brian is an engineer based in Chicago, and his daughter Dr. Sherin serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine at Yale University.

The recognition underscores George Thumpayil’s enduring legacy in journalism and his commitment to bridging cultures through meaningful storytelling and media excellence.
