Third EC notice to Kejriwal on 'bribe for votes' comment
New Delhi, Jan 27
The Election Commission
Tuesday issued a third notice to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal asking him
to "desist" from making comments on bribing of voters by political
parties and warned of strict action in the event of any violation.
The
notice was issued over Kejriwal's comments that people from both the
BJP and the Congress would offer money to voters which they should not
refuse. The AAP asked electors to, however, cast their vote in favour of
the Aam Aadmi Party.
The poll panel had earlier issued notice to the Aam Aadmi Party leader Jan 18 and Jan 23 on the same issue.
Kejriwal
had given an undertaking to the Election Commission that he would not
violate the model code of conduct further with such comments.
Holding
that the comments violated the model code, the poll panel directed
Kejriwal from making such utterances in all forms of election campaigns
from 7 p.m. Tuesday.
"You are hereby warned that the commission
shall be constrained to take stern action against you in the event of
any further violation," the notice said.
