SAARC literature festival begins in city of Taj
Agra, Feb 13
The 49th SAARC literature
festival commenced here Friday amid sprinkling of rose petals in Yamuna
water and eminent poets from the eight member countries reciting poems
on the first day.
Over 150 poets, writers, scholars and artists
are participating in the deliberations to be conducted over four days in
this city of Taj Mahal at the hotel Grand.
Speaking at the
inaugural session, Jansatta editor and veteran journalist Om Thanvi
pointed out though people talk and swear by Mahatma Gandhi, there was so
much tension and hatred all around.
He said the nexus of
criminals and those in authority was a matter of serious concern.
Against the current depressing scenario it was necessary that creative
writers, artists and activists recognise their crucial role and the
need for intervention.
Writing alone would not help, if there is need they should all come out on streets and raise their voice, he added.
SAARC
literature festival organising committee's chairperson Punjabi writer
and novelist Ajeet Cour, on this occasion, said the literature festival
brought people together and helped bridge the communication gap.
