Noted TV journalist Gita Bajaj passed away

Noted TV journalist Gita Bajaj, 56, passed away after a prolonged fight against cancer on February 25 in New Jersey.

She was one of the pioneering broadcast journalists from the community. She worked with CNN and other mainstream channels early in her life. In 1987 she joined Bombay Broadcasting Inc and later started her own TV show, ‘Eye on Asia’ which focused the South Asians in America. It was a popular program on TV for several years and it became a voice of the community.

For the past decade, she worked as press secretary for the New Jersey State Legislative Assembly Majority Office.

Bajaj grew up in Mumbai and moved tot eh US to pursue her masters degree at University of Georgia. She interned for Senator Sam Nunn after her studies.

She is survived by her mother, brother, two sisters and nieces and nephews.

A funeral is scheduled for tomorrow, February 28 at Jorge Rivera Funeral Home in North Bergen, New Jersey
