Actor Leonard Nimoy dies at 83

American actor Leonard
Nimoy, best known for his portrayal of half-human science officer Spock
in "Star Trek", died here Friday. He was 83.
The iconic actor died of a chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, CNN quoted his family members as saying.
His "Star Trek" co-stars, including William Shatner and George Takei, expressed sadness at his death.
In
a career spanning six decades, Nimoy's stint included film direction,
singing, poetry and photography. But his lasting claim to fame remains
Spock, a native of the planet Vulcan whose pointed ears, unemotional
manner endeared him to millions of his fans.
