American woman assaulted, in hospital
Vrindavan, March 4
An American woman missing
here since February 27 has been hospitalized after she was found lying
on a road in a state of shock with bruises all over the body, police
said Wednesday.
The unnamed 43-year-old woman, from California,
was shouting that she had been raped, a police officer said after her
hospitalization in Mathura Tuesday.
"She appeared to be heavily intoxicated," the officer said. Another source said she had been sent to the Agra district hospital.
The
woman, believed to be a Sri Krishna devotee, came to Vrindavan on
February 26 for Holi celebrations. She was staying in a guest house.
She told the police that her valuables had been stolen. The police recovered her belongings from a beggar later in the evening.
