New app would 'clean' your favourite novel for you
Washington, March 13
If you want to read a best-selling novel, but don't like the cuss words in it, this app is for you.
The new app called Clean Reader scans books to get rid of any words readers might find "offensive".
It comes with three settings - "clean", "cleaner" and "squeaky clean".
The app has been developed by Idaho couple Jared and Kirsten Maughan.
The
idea struck them when they had trouble finding books on their
daughter's reading level that didn't contain "pretty significant swear
words".
"In order to challenge her as a reader we had to present
her with books that were a little bit older," Jared was quoted as saying
by the Washington Post.
The Maughans thought that with all the
technology that exists today, there had to be an app for that. But much
to their disappointment, there wasn't one.
That's when the couple decided to make an app that their daughter, and potentially millions of others would use.
The
app is currently available for free in both the App Store and Google
Play. But one will have to purchase any of the books they want "cleaned"
inside the app.
It has more than one million titles to offer.
"We
believe there are lots of people around the world that would rather
read books without seeing excessive profanity. These are exactly the
people we hope to serve with Clean Reader," Jared added.
