Dimapur lynching: Nagaland CM recommends CBI probe
Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang on Thursday said
his government has decided to hand over the March 5 Dimapur lynching
probe to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
Zeliang said the decision was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet here on Wednesday night.
"We
are going to write to the Centre to probe (by the CBI) the incident on
March 5, where a mob broke into the Central Jail in Dimapur and killed a
rape accused," he said.
On March 5, an irate mob broke the gate
of the jail and forcibly took out a rape accused, who had been lodged
in the jail. The mob then paraded him naked and then lynched him.
The
state government has so far arrested 55 people for their alleged
involvement in the lynching of Syed Farid Khan, who hailed from
neighbouring Assam.
Earlier, the state government launched a judicial probe into the incident.
