Indian dies falling from cruise ship
George Uthup of Missouri City, Texas died after falling from the cruise ship Carnival Triumph in the Gulf of Mexico, March 17. Carnival Triumph was on the last leg of a five-day cruise which began from Galveston, Texas.
Cruise officials received word that a 54-year-old man had fallen overboard in the evening. Surveillance video confirmed the fall, and the ship immediately initiated a search and rescue operation. Mexican authorities also deployed search vessels to the location, just off the coast of northern Mexico, reports said.
The body was found next day. The body was taken to Mexico. After the completig the formalities there, the body was sent to the US.
‘Our foremost care and concern is with the loved ones of our guest at this very difficult time,’ a company spokesman said in a statement issued to the media soon after the death.
Uthup was a respitory therapist at LBJ Hospital in Houston. He went for the cruise with his wife Mary, a nurse at the Herman Hospital. He celebrated his birthday o March 15 on the ship. The couple have two children.
