MCG attracts record 93,013 attendance for World Cup final
Melbourne, March 29
The World Cup final
between Australia and New Zealand at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG)
here on Sunday broke the sport's attendance record with 93,013 people
turning up to see Australia being crowned champions for the fifth time.
Australia beat New Zealand by seven wickets with 101 balls remaining.
Sunday’s
total attendance surpassed the record achieved at the same venue 15
months ago when the first day of the Boxing Day Test attracted 91,112
people.
The previous One-Day International (ODI) record crowd was
achieved in the 1992 World Cup when the iconic 'G' drew a crowd of
87,182 for the final between Pakistan and England.
