World Malayalee Council invites nominations for awards

World Malayalee Council (WMC) NJ will be hosting the 20th Anniversary celebrations of the global organization on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel, 515 US Highway 1 South, Iselin, NJ 08830.  This will be a full-day program with meetings, discussions, entertainment and formal dinner.  

WMC has a solid record of accomplishments and service to the Malayalee community.  Some of WMC’s highly successful projects over the years have been NavaKerala Village Adoption , ALTIUS YouthEmpowerment Project, NRK Kudumba Sangamam,Hrudayaragam (Free heart surgery for the poor), Kidney-Dialysis projects, etc. 

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary, WMC is planning to present recognition awards to selected members of the Malayalee community in the tri-state area for their outstanding achievements, accomplishments, and contributions to the society.  

We invite you to submit nominations for the awards in the categories provided below, subject to the respective criteria. 

One or more awards may be made in each category.  The number of awards, of course, will be limited.  However, we may select deserving candidates for “Honorable Mention”, in case they do not win an award in their category.

Award Criteria 

The general criteria for the awards in each category are provided below. Nominees do not have to satisfy all criteria in a category.  Also, certain criteria may not apply in some circumstances. While nominating, you may want to obtain the consent of the nominee.  The judges may contact the nominees during the review process. The decisions of the judges appointed by WMC-NJ will be final and binding.  

Successful Business owners,Professionals, Artists and Writers

a) Business owners

• Financial success and growth of the company

• Governance of the business

• Employment opportunities generated by the company

• Innovative business practices or strategies

• Contributions to the community and industry

b) Professionals

• Demonstrate excellence, creativity, and initiative in their business or profession.

• Provide valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life for others in the community.

• Actively assist colleagues and associates in realizing their full potential.

 

c) Artists and Writers

• Demonstrate creativity and excellence in their chosen area of activity.

• Must have produced an original work of literature/art

• Make substantial contributions to the cultural life of the community.

Accomplished Researchers and Teachers

• A record of outstanding teaching and/or research effectiveness 

• The ability to inspire, promote, and sustain the intellectual development of colleagues and/or students

• New approaches using current or new models of teaching

• Intellectually rigorous, creative, and engaging

• Demonstrated scholarly/professional contributions 

• Contribution to developing or enhancing curricula in the field

• Length of service

• Other awards/honors received

Young Professionals and Entrepreneurs

• Has already made significant strides in his/her profession and contributions to the larger community

• Is regarded by his/her peers and colleagues as a future leader and has already made a professional mark and a positive impact in a limited amount of time.

• Is a founder or co-founder of a start-up of an entrepreneurial enterprise 

• Has made civic responsibility a core practice in their business, as well as their personal life.

• Has demonstrated visionary leadership 

• Serves the community through passion and commitment to civic causes.

• Has demonstrated exceptional business practices in his/her respective field. 

• Works diligently to advance a healthy business environment  

 College Students

• Proven excellence and participation in college activities (classroom/extracurricular)

• Volunteer service (community, youth and faith-based organizations)

• Leadership roles (elected/appointed)

• Employment (if any)

• Recognition/awards received for outstanding achievements
