NEW YORK: A group of Tamils led by Jaya Sundaram, secretary of American Tamil Sangam and Koshy Oommen, president of Overseas Friends of AIADMK celebrated AIADMK's supremo J Jayalalithaa's acquittal in the protracted wealth case held in Karnataka by offering special prayers to Maha Vallabha Ganapathy temple in Flushing, New York and distributing sweets to New Yorkers recently.

Ms Sundaram said it was a day to celebrate and rejoice as Amma has risen like a phoenix and proved to the world that the cases were filed by the opposition to defame her reputation. They carried a portrait of Amma and distributed sweets to over 100 Indian-Americans and other nationalities.

Mr Oommen said Amma always has a special place in her heart for overseas Tamils and it was a day of victory over evil for Tamils especially friends of AIADMK living in the US.

Priests Hariharan and Krishnamoorthy of Maha Vallabha Ganapathy temple performed special archana and special puja in the name of the AIADMK leader on behalf of the devotees.

Peter Masilamani, a resident of Long Island, said it was rare that Tamils in the US to support any political party in Tamil Nadu and Amma is an exception.

Vishnu Raj, managing editor of NRI Today magazine, said many Americans and Chinese origin people inquired about the victory celebrations and not surprisingly they all are aware of Amma and the monumental work done by her in Tamil Nadu.

Besides Ms. Sundaram and Koshy Oommen, Janani Sundaram, Jagan, Vishnu Raj, Ms. Sonali, Ms. Shweta Peter Masilamani and many others spoke hailing Amma and joined in the celebrations.
