Youth Congress protest against Narendra Modi, Sushma Swaraj
New Delhi, June 17
Youth Congress on Wednesday
staged protest against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External
Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, accusing the latter of helping former
IPL chief Lalit Modi in procuring documents for travel to Portugal.
Hundreds
of Youth Congress supporters led by its national president Amarinder
Singh Brar demanded the external affairs minister should resign and an
inquiry be launched against her.
"We want Sushma Swaraj to resign
from her post as she helped Lalit Modi, who has escaped out of India to
avoid legal consequences. A case under national security act should be
lodged against Sushma. We demand a high-level inquiry," Brar said.
The
participants gathered near Teen Murti Bhawan in high-security New Delhi
area and headed towards the residence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
When
stopped, they diverted the route and walked towards Swaraj's residence.
Police barricaded both the roads and cordoned off the entire area.
"We will go to 7 RCR to protest against Narendra Modi," Brar said.
Attacking
Swaraj for helping Lalit Modi on "humanitarian ground", Brar said, "If
she had helped a poor vendor in sending him to foreign country on
humanitarian ground, we would have lauded her efforts that she did some
good work."
"She helped a criminal, Lalit Modi, who is accused of
embezzling Rs.1,700 crore," Brar said, adding: "We will also go to
Jaipur to protest against Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje."
The
opposition has been gunning for Swaraj's removal after she admitted
helping the former Indian Premier League (IPL) commissioner in securing
documents to travel to Portugal in July last year for the treatment of
his cancer-stricken wife.
