Damascus, July 7 At least 78 members of Islamic State (IS) have been killed since Sunday night in clashes with Kurdish militias and from air raids launched by the US-led international coalition in northern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said on Tuesday.

Coalition airstrikes targeted IS positions in northern Syria, namely in Sarrin, Aleppo; Ain Issa, al-Raqqa; and Jabal Abdelaziz; al-Hasakah.

Radicals attacked the locations on Monday in an attempt to regain control over Ain Eissa and other villages, yet the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units, backed by the international coalition, managed to take back 11 towns in al-Raqqa.

SOHR had no information regarding Kurdish casualties in the IS attacks, which included two suicide bombings carried out by minors in Ain Eissa and southwest of al-Hasakah.

IS has taken control over large parts of Syria and Iraq since June 2014, when it proclaimed a caliphate in all the lands under its dominion.
