Want tangible proposal from government over impasse: Congress
New Delhi, July 31 The Congress on Friday said that its taking part in an all-party meeting on Monday depended on tangible proposal from the government to break the impasse on its demands and the party was not interested in any photo opportunity.
"We are not interested in mere photo-ops. The prime minister must first tell us what action is being taken on our demands," party senior spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters here.
The Narendra Modi government has called an all-party meeting on Monday to end the logjam over the Lalit Modi and Vyapam issues.
Sharma contended that the stalemate was due to the "obduracy and arrogance" of Prime Minister Modi and his government.
Congress is demanding resignation of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje over their help to former IPL chief Lalit Modi, who is facing investigations from the Enforcement Directorate, and of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over the Vyapam scam.
"The opposition is doing its duty in raising issues which are in public domain. Parliament has to ensure the accountability of the government," Sharma said.
Sharma said the country was waiting to hear "what happened between him and (his Pakistani counterpart) Nawaz Sharif at (Russian city of) Ufa. He has not spoken".
"We are left only to hear the Pakistani version of what was discussed and what was committed. This country has to be taken into confidence. The prime minister cannot brazen it out by remaining silent," he added.
