Modi praises Mulayam Singh for supporting end of parliament logjam
New Delhi, Aug 11 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday praised Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for supporting an end to the continued logjam in parliament.
The move came a day after Mulayam Singh broke ranks with opposition parties and sought a discussion to end the logjam.
"The prime minister has expressed gratitude towards Mulayam Singh," union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement after a meeting of the BJP's parliamentary party.
The Samajwadi Party on Monday assured Speaker Sumitra Mahajan that it would not join the protests led by the Congress in the Lok Sabha.
"You have to ensure that the house functions. This is happening because you have not spoken to anybody," Yadav had said.
Rudy said the prime minister felt the house was being stalled to thwart the country's growth.
"The prime minister said he feels the end of the session shows that there are some people who are using parliament to stop growth and development," Rudy said.
The monsoon session of parliament, set to end this Thursday, has been marred by protests by the Congress.
The Congress has been demanding External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's resignation for allegedly helping former IPL chief Lalit Modi, who is sought by the Enforcement Directorate.
