FTII teachers association condemns arrest of students
New Delhi, Aug 20 The Teachers Association of the Film and Television Institute of India on Thursday condemned the arrest of protesting students, saying the current problems could have been easily solved if police had handled the case differently.
"We condemn the manner in which students were picked up by police. If the matter would have been handled a little differently, then the problem could have been solved," Kedarnath Awati, president of FTII's Teacher's Association, said in a statement.
Five FTII students were arrested in Pune for illegal confinement after they 'gheraoed' the institute's director Prashant Pathrabe.
The students have been protesting for over two months, demanding the removal of the facility's newly appointed chairman Gajendra Chauhan.
