PM to inaugurate Delhi-Faridabad Metro line on Sunday
Chandigarh, Sep 4 Residents of Haryana's Faridabad city will be able to enjoy the Delhi Metro services with Prime Minister Narendra Modi scheduled to inaugurate the Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar (Faridabad) line on Sunday.
The extension of Delhi Metro till Faridabad, an industrial hub in Haryana, will ease commuting between both cities. Nearly 200,000 people travel between both cities daily, clogging the connecting roads, a Haryana government spokesman said here on Friday.
"This will make commuting hassle-free and help save lot of time, energy and money," the spokesman said, adding that 95 percent of the metro line to Faridabad was built indigenously and put on the track within the sanctioned cost.
"It will provide people a safe, affordable, quick, comfortable, reliable, environment-friendly and sustainable transport facility. Non-availability of such system has caused congestion on the roads and resulted in high cost and long hours of journey, high consumption of fossil fuel, and environmental pollution," he said.
There are nine stations in this section - Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar - which is an extension of the Metro's Violet Line, currently running from ITO to Badarpur.
All these stations are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2).
The project has been completed within the sanctioned cost of Rs. 2,494 crore. The metro line is 13.875 km long.
