Previous governments didn't accept OROP: Modi
Faridabad, Sep 6 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said his government approved the implementation of the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme for veterans which was not cleared for over 40 years.
At a rally here in Haryana after inaugurating the extension of a Delhi Metro line, Modi said: "Those who didn't do anything for 40 years have no right to speak on behalf of jawans."
He said his government closely examined how much the OROP will cost the exchequer and found out that the costs would be Rs.8,000 to Rs.10,000 crore.
He criticised the Congress and previous central governments for not doing anything in this regard even though the issue was pending for the past 42 years.
He said his government began working on the issue since it assumed office in May last year.
Earlier, the prime minister took Metro rail ride between Janpath and Bata Chowk stations.
