Proud of valour of soldiers in 1965 war: Modi

New Delhi, Sep 17 Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said the country was proud of the valour of "our armed forces during the 1965 war" with Pakistan.
"The valour and sacrifice of our armed forces during the 1965 war remains etched in the memory of every Indian. We are very proud of them," the prime minister tweeted after visiting 'Shauryanjali', an exhibition at Rajpath here being held to mark the golden jubilee of the 1965 India-Pakistan War.
Modi took a tour of the exhibition, and was briefed about the various tableaux and models on display.
The five-day exhibition showcasing major battle scenes in the 1965 war began on Tuesday. Manoeuvres by fighter jets would be part of the commemorative event.
The exhibition, from September 15 to 20, will see the recreation of major battle scenes of the war and showcase the role of various arms and services during the war.
Covering around 50,000 square metres on Rajpath, the exhibition has pavilions that showcase the role of the three armed forces, Central Reserve Police Force, media, All India Radio and the Indian Red Cross in the war.
Also on display is the gun-mounted jeep that Company Quarter-Master Havildar Abdul Hamid deployed to hunt down and destroy as many as five Patton tanks of the Pakistan army.
Major battles recreated at the venue are battles of Asal Uttar, Haji Pir, Burki, Dograi and Phillora.
At the culmination of the exhibition, a carnival 'Indradhanush', will see Sukhoi-30 fighter jets flying in 'Missing Man' formation along with Mi-17 V5 helicopters. It will be the first time - apart from Republic Day parades - that fighter jets will conduct a flypast over India Gate.
The air force's skydiving team 'Akash Ganga' will perform a para-drop from helicopters onto India Gate lawns. The army helicopters will also perform a flypast.
