Shillong, Oct 30 An earthquake of slight intensity jolted India's north-eastern states and parts of Bangladesh in the early hours of Friday, an official said.
However, there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage to property.
"The quake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 3.45 a.m. and had its epicentre in Assam's Karimganj district bordering Bangladesh," a seismologist of the central seismological centre, told IANS.
The earthquake was felt in some parts of Assam, Meghalaya, and adjoining areas of north-eastern region, besides parts of Bangladesh.
It lasted for about 10 to 12 seconds.
India's north-eastern states -- Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur -- are considered by seismologists as the sixth major earthquake-prone belt in the world.
