No offence made against V.K. Singh: Delhi Police to court
New Delhi, Nov 16 Delhi Police on Monday told a court here that no offence has been made out against union minister V.K. Singh on a criminal complaint for his alleged "dog" remark.
Police, in their action taken report (ATR) filed before Metropolitan Magistrate Muneesh Garg, said no cognizable offence was made out against the minister for his alleged remark.
The court on October 29 had directed police to file a report on the complaint.
V.K. Singh, a former Indian Army chief, triggered a row on October 21 when he used an analogy of stoning a dog while commenting on the burning of two Dalit children in a Haryana village by upper caste villagers.
A criminal complaint was filed last month by advocate Satya Prakash Gautam seeking lodging of an FIR against V.K. Singh under provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Gautam said the minister had "deliberately" used such language to insult the community and his words promoted enmity.
He told the court that he had requested police to register a case against the minister, but police refused.
"The statement of V.K. Singh has caused immense damage to the entire community with a view to denigrate the prestige and honour of scheduled caste children with deliberate and malicious intention the religious feelings of entire scheduled caste community," the plea said.
The court fixed the matter for November 24 for further proceedings.
