Let party decide, if I need to contest: Achuthanandan
Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 23 Ex-Kerala Chief Minister and veteran CPI-M leader V.S. Achuthanandan on Sunday did not rule out contesting next year's assembly polls, saying the people and the party should take a call if he needs to contest.
"Let the people and the party decide if I need to contest. After knowing the will of the people, I will decide if I need to contest," 92-year-old Achuthanandan told reporters here.
Achuthanandan's statement came at a time when his performance as the star campaigner in the recent civic polls fetched handsome returns for the Left parties.
His remark also assumed significance as a few days ago Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Sitaram Yechury said there was no age bar on CPI-M candidates when it comes to electoral politics.
Yechury also added that Achuthanandan staying fit as a fiddle should be an example to others.
