13 dead, 32 injured in a bus-truck collision near Madurai
Chennai, Feb 6 Thirteeen people were killed and 32 seriously injured in a head-on collision between a state transport bus and a truck in Tamil Nadu's Madurai district on Saturday, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa said.
In a statement issued here, Jayalalithaa, expressing her grief at the deaths, said the bus was bound to Kumuli from Tirunelveli and the lorry was bound to Sencottah from Karur, when the accident happened near T.Kalupatti around 3 p.m.
Police said that the injured have been admitted in a nearby hospital and investigations are on to ascertain the cause of accident.
Jayalalithaa also announced a solatium of Rs.100,000 to the families of the dead and Rs.50,000 compensation to the seriously injured.
