Delhi Police chief Bassi in fray for information commissioner
New Delhi, Feb 17
Delhi Police Commissioner B.S. Bassi is one of the main contenders for the post of information commissioner in the Central Information Commission (CIC), said official sources.
The selection panel led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to choose the information commissioner on February 19.
According to official sources, Bassi, a 1977 batch Indian Police Service officer who is due to retire this month-end, is one of the applicants for the post. His name was shortlisted last November by a search committee headed by Cabinet Secretary P.K. Sinha.
There is a vacancy of three commissioners against its total strength of 10.
The government had in December appointed former defence secretary R.K. Mathur as the the chief information commissioner.
