The Jungle Book' leads for a third weekend at box office
Los Angeles, May 2
Disney's "The Jungle Book" remained the most popular movie in North America for a third straight weekend, Xinhua reported.
"The Jungle Book" was expected to sell $42.2 million worth of tickets between Friday morning and the close of business on Sunday night, as the film was down just 31 percent from last weekend's healthy hold, according to studio estimates gathered by comScore.
The live-action reboot of the 1970s animated feature was expected to cross the $250 million line of North America box office revenue on Sunday and it has grossed over $684 million worldwide.
In second place was "The Huntsman: Winter's War" in its second week of showings, with only $9.4 million weekend. The total gross of it in first 10 days is up to $34 million.
An R-rated comedy "that defies description" from the comedy team of Key and Peale, "Keanu," debuted in third place, said movie analyst Paul Degarabedian. It premiered with $9.4 million in sales from 2,658 locations across America and Canada.
Starring Jordan Peele and Keegan-Michael Key, "Keanu" received positive reviews from critics on RottenTomatoes, which shows 75 percent of recommendation.
It received a respectable "B" rating from first-night moviegoers on CinemaScore, which shows a relatively good result for an R-rated comedy.
The remaining 10 most-popular movies this weekend were "Mother's Day" ($8.3 million), "Barbershop: The Next Cut" ($6.2 million), "Zootopia" ($5 million), "Ratchet and Clank" ($4.8 million), "The Boss" ($4.3 million), "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" ($3.8 million) and "Criminal" ($1.3 million).
