BJP ahead in early Assam vote count
Guwahati, May 19
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was ahead in seven constituencies in the initial Assam vote count on Thursday, officials said.
The ruling Congress was leading in three seats while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) was ahead in two.
Authorities began counting the millions of votes cast in the Assam assembly elections in 51 centres.
A total of 1,064 candidates were in the fray for the 120 seats in the Assam assembly.
