Casual labourer's son elected Kerala legislator
Muvattupuzha (Kerala), May 21 The parents of newly elected CPI legislator Eldo Abraham are elated over his electoral victory, but also worried that they will not be able to see him take oath. For they do not own a TV.
The father of the first-time MLA ekes out his living by working as a casual labourer and cannot afford a "luxury" like television.
"We are happy for our son and we wish he does whatever he can for the poor and the downtrodden," said his father.
The 39-year-old Abraham, previously elected to the local body, defeated sitting Congress legislator Joseph Vazhaken by 9,375 votes in Muvattupuzha constituency.
When the votes were being counted on Thursday, Abraham's parents were in their neighbour's house watching the results. When their son is sworn in, they will have to again go to the neighbour's house to watch the swearing-in.
Abraham and his parents live in a small two-room house.
