Anti-talk ULFA faction opposes land to Patanjali Trust in Assam

Guwahati, May 23
The United Liberation Front of Asom's (ULFA) anti-talk faction has appealed to the leadership of the Bodoland Territorial Areas District (BTAD) to reconsider giving 3,800 hectare of land in the Chirang district to yoga guru Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Trust.
In a statement emailed to media on Monday, it said there is ulterior motive behind Ramdev's outfit seeking such a huge piece of land.
"We heard that the BTAD leadership has almost finalised the proposal to give 3,800 hectare of land to Patanjali Trust at Chirang district of Assam. We believe yogic exercise leads to good health. However, like a Muslim can offer his namaz in any open space, there is no need for any specific location for practicing Indian yoga, which is mostly based on religion," the statement said, alleging that Ramdev actually wants to make money by expanding his ayurvedic medicine business to the state.
"Besides, what is more worrying is the fact that Ramdev also wants the land to set up the factory of communal Aryan politics of the RSS here in the name of Patanjali Trust," said the statement signed by ULFA chairman Abhijit Asom.
The outfit appealed to the Bodo leadership led by Hagrama Mohilary to reconsider their stand to hand over such a huge plot of land to Patanjali Trust, saying such a decision will be against the interest of Assam as a whole.
Ramdev had last month told the media that Patanjali Ayurveda, the FMCG venture promoted by him, will invest over Rs.1,150 crore in the current fiscal to set up six processing units and one R&D centre in Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Haryana.
