New Delhi, May 25

The Delhi High Court on Tuesday declined to admit a petition challenging the government decision to confer Padma Vibhushan on late industrialist Dhirubhai Ambani.

A division bench of Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath refused to entertain a public interest litigation filed by advocate P.C. Srivastava who sought the quashing of a government notification whereby the second highest civilian award of India was given to Ambani.

Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, died in 2002. He was given the Padma Vibhushan posthumously on March 28 for "exceptional and distinguished services" in the field of trade and industry.

The plea questioned "whether the government had acted and processed the case, as well as conferred the Padma Vibhushan on late Dhirubhai Hiramal Ambani, as per the Padma award scheme and guidelines".
