Harry Siddhu wins primary from California State Assembly District 68

Anaheim, CA – Former Anaheim Mayor Pro Tem Harry Sidhu has won one of the “top two” spots in yesterday’s June 7, 2016 Primary Election to proceed to the November 8, 2016 General Election for State Assembly District 68. Sidhu is poised to make California history. A win in the upcoming November 8th General Election would make Sidhu the first Indo-American ever elected to the California State Assembly. He has received strong endorsement support from Republican elected officials, community leaders, law enforcement, and wide-ranging business organizations.

“I am honored that the 68th State Assembly District voters have placed their trust in me to be their voice in Sacramento as a champion for small business owners and taxpayer protection,” said Sidhu. “Now, it’s on to facing my opponent, Democrat Sean Jay Panahi, in the November 8th General Election, and continuing my vigorous campaign to become the next 68th State Assembly District representative.

Longtime Orange County business owner Sidhu served for eight years on the Anaheim City Council – comprised of two consecutive terms from 2004 through 2012. He is honored to have been the first person of Indian heritage to have achieved this position. Sidhu also served as Mayor Pro Tem in 2012 and from December 2009 through December 2011. He also recently served on the Orange County Water District Board of Directors, representing the City of Anaheim, and as an Alternate Commissioner for the Santa Ana Watershed Project Authority.

As a businessman and public official, Sidhu cares deeply about his community and the people living in it. He is committed to encouraging a thriving business culture and economic development in the region that will create jobs, housing, and meet the needs of the taxpayers. His Anaheim City Council achievements included initiating a free annual health fair in the City, supporting a charter amendment which was placed on the November 2006 ballot to forever prohibit eminent domain abuse in the City of Anaheim, and implementing an annual Anaheim/OC Job Fair and Expo – which under his leadership guidance put over 1,700 back to work.

Sidhu immigrated to the United States from India with his parents in 1974, as a permanent resident, and settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he completed his education and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Drexel University. In 1979, he became a United States citizen and moved to California the following year, beginning his professional life as a consulting engineer in the aerospace defense industry. During that period, Sidhu also became a Licensed California Professional Engineer - Registered Mechanical Engineer, and obtained a General Contractor’s License (B). Additionally, he is a General Aviation Licensed Private Pilot and has been a Licensed Real Estate Broker since 1991.

In 1994, Sidhu moved to Anaheim where he presently resides with his wife and two children. His community involvement has included the following: Board Member, Boys and Girls Clubs of Anaheim; Advisory Board Member, Anaheim Family YMCA; Anaheim Chamber of Commerce member; Anaheim Small Business Chamber member; Orange County Republican Party, Deputy Chairman, City of Anaheim; Anaheim Youth Soccer Coach; charity fundraiser and sponsor of children’s sports; supporter of the arts and arts education, and many civic activities.
