Concert to pay tribute to Jagjit Singh on death anniversary
Mumbai, Oct 11 : Film maker Anubhav Sinha and Bhushan Kumar came together to pay a tribute to ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh on his death anniversary on Monday and also to celebrate the success of their forthcoming film "Tum Bin 2" song "Teri Fairyad".
Rekha Bharadwaj, Jaswinder Singh, Hariharan, and Anup Jalota participated in the non-ticketed event which attracted a 500 plus audience comprising of young college students and senior citizens.
Aditya Seal and Aashim Gulati, the debutante lead actors of the second installment of the cult film, recited a ghazal as part of the tribute.
The event started with Jaswinder Singh who sang "Shaam Se Ankh Mein Nami Si Hai", "Tum Ho Dekhna", "Kal Chaudvin Ki Raat Thi" and "Charkha Mera Rangla" and was followed by Jalota who sang "Tum Itna Jo Muskura Rahe Ho" and "Hontho Se Chhu Lo Tum".
Bharadwaj sang "Jhuki Jhuki Si Nazar", and "Koi Ye Kaise Bataye" while Hariharan took over with "Sarakti Jai Hai" and "Aah Ko Chahiye". "Teri Fariyad" lyricist Shakeel Azmi recited a few Urdu poems enthusiasts had sent in to the "Tum Bin 2" team.
Bharadwaj also ended the event with "Teri Fariyad" when Sinha and Bhushan Kumar joined her on stage.
Sinha said: "We put together this event in a span of 2 weeks and I have to thank the entire T Series and Benaras Media Works team for making this an overnight success.
"It is important that the world is reminded of legends like Jagjit Singh time and again and cult films like 'Tum Bin' allow film makers like me to showcase the grandeur and romance of timeless classics through the musical score. I have worked very closely with Jagjitji and I would like to credit 1/3rd of the musical legacy-cum-success the franchise enjoys to him."
Shot in Scotland, "Tum Bin 2" will reunite producer Bhushan Kumar and writer director Sinha after a gap of 15 years.
Unlike the previous, "Tum Bin 2" will have two heroes and one leading lady - newcomer Neha Sharma. The film marks Sinha's return to direction after 4 years, and is his 7th directorial venture. It goes on floors on November 18.
