Varanasi, Oct 19: National woman footballer Poonam Chauhan has succumbed to dengue here, officials said on Wednesday.
The 29-year-old was admitted to a private hospital on Maqbool Alam Road in the temple town some days ago and passed away around Tuesday midnight, a family member said.
Chauhan had represented Uttar Pradesh more than 10 times in the National Football Championship and was part of the Indian women football team in 2007 and 2010.
She was cremated on Wednesday at the Mankarnika Ghat.
Dengue has spread to many places in Uttar Pradesh and has claimed more than 200 lives in the state capital alone.
