New Delhi, Nov 7 Congress Working Committee (CWC) members on Monday urged party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to take over as Congress chief at the meeting of the party's highest decision making body here, sources said.
Party sources said the meeting discussed organisational elections and the present political situation.
They said CWC members urged Rahul Gandhi to take over as the party chief.
There have been demands in the party that Rahul Gandhi should take over the reigns of the party from his mother Sonia Gandhi, who is the longest serving president of the party.
She became party chief in 1998.
